Superhero top and school-appropriate jeans $1 on Thursday, September 19th

9.15.2019
  • Reminder that we will have Parent Orientation this Tuesday, September 17th from 6:30p to 8p. Before that at 5:45, the PTA Enrichment committee will host an Enrichment program Vendor Fair in the Auditorium.
  • Because we will have parent orientation, we will not have any after school programs on Tuesday, September 17th. No CASPER or Boys & Girls Club
  • The YMCA Program has updated its start date to Monday September 23rd.
  • Thank you for all of the families that visited during the various meet and greet activities and picnics last week. More to come this week.
  • We will have a Superhero tag day on Thursday September 19. Students can wear a superhero themed shirt and school-appropriate jeans for $1.
  • In order to support the Copa Mirabel Organization fight Childhood Cancer, the District will host a Jean Day for all students and Staff on Friday, September 20. $5 donation from staff and $1 donation from students.
  • Uniform orders that were placed before school began will be in on Tuesday. Be reminded that the latest order forms are due NO LATER than Friday September 20th. Please make sure you send that in and confirm with the teacher that it was given in.
  • Please note that we currently have a waiting list on CASPER. With additional staff coming on board in the coming weeks, that should open up. We will keep you posted as soon as the program opens up again.
  • Parents that use strollers to transport children, please be advised that we need to keep our entry doors clear. Strollers have contributed to a traffic jam on our sidewalks and this disrupts the safe passage of our teachers and students. Please be mindful of where you are stopping with your strollers. Additionally, please remember that one of the key skills for our younger students is learning how to walk to school independently. If you have the time, please make the time to help your children grow.
  • Kindergarten parents, please be reminded that you cannot walk your child to their classroom, it is a breach of our security protocols. If you need to meet with a teacher, please set up an appointment for your concerns if a brief discussion at drop off isn't feasible.
  • Paper lunch applications were delivered to homerooms on Friday which means that you should receive yours this week. Please complete it as it helps determine funding for our school. If you have internet access, you can complete your lunch application online this year at: https://www.myschoolapps.com
  • If you are new to our community, please sign up for emails by filling out this form. Please also provide your email to the main office so they can ensure it is on Infinite Campus.

PTA news:

    Reminders from Emails This Week

    • Copies of the Code of Conduct were distributed last week. You can find it here.
    • Attendance Reminders:
      • Regular and sustained attendance is critical to a child’s success in school. In order for our students to effectively develop skills in New Jersey Student Learning Standards in all subjects, especially Language Arts and Math, it is expected that they attend school on a daily basis.
      • Physically being present will ensure that students receive continuity of instruction, appropriate lesson pacing, and collaborative learning opportunities with their peers. Research has shown that absences have negative effects on school performance and overall ability to learn. We ask that you, as parents/guardians, make every attempt to have your children be in school every day.
      • Similarly, we ask that you pay special attention to student punctuality. In the last few years, we have seen a significant increase in the number of children arriving after the morning bell. The JCPS Student Code of Conduct (p. 11) states, “Students are expected to arrive to school and class on time. School begins every day at 8:30 a.m. for Pre-K-12 students. Any elementary student arriving after 8:40 am will be considered late.”
      • Arriving on time sets the tone for the day, and contributes to the standard of excellence reflected in our school pledge: “At Cordero, we believe every student will achieve.”  It is critical that you ensure your child be punctual so that his/her day is successful and does not pose a disruption to their learning and that of others.
      • We understand that there may be occasions your child is absent or late due to illness or unforeseen circumstances. On these occasions, kindly contact the Attendance Counselor, Ms. Coleman (dcoleman@jcboe.org) at 201-714-4881 or your child’s teacher. Should you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Mr. Stanton (dstanton@jcboe.org) or Mr. Cabrera (scabrera@jcboe.org)
      • Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

    • Any questions or concerns, please contact the office.
    Notice to All Kindergarten Parents/Guardians:
